What do I do if I’m involved in a car crash?

If you are involved in a car crash, there are several steps you should take to protect your safety and your legal rights:

  1. Check for injuries: If you or anyone else involved in the crash is injured, call 911 or your local emergency number immediately. Do not move anyone who is seriously injured unless it is necessary to avoid further danger.

  2. Call the police: Even if the crash is minor and no one is injured, it is a good idea to call the police. The police will create a report of the crash, which can be useful if you need to file an insurance claim or if the other driver disputes your version of the events.

  3. Exchange information: Get the name, contact information, and insurance information of the other driver(s) involved in the crash. You should also get the make and model of the other car(s), as well as the license plate number.

  4. Document the crash: Take pictures of the damage to all vehicles involved, as well as any visible injuries. Also take pictures of the location of the crash, including any skid marks or debris.

  5. Notify your insurance company: Call your insurance company as soon as possible to report the crash. Be sure to have your policy number and any other relevant information handy.

  6. Get medical attention: If you were injured in the crash, seek medical attention as soon as possible. Even if your injuries seem minor, it is important to have them evaluated by a doctor.

  7. Consult an attorney: If you were injured in the crash or if the other driver disputes your version of the events, it may be a good idea to consult an attorney. An attorney can help you understand your legal rights and options and can represent you in negotiations with the insurance company or in court.

It is important to keep in mind that every car crash is different, and the specific steps you need to take may vary depending on the circumstances. The most important thing is to stay safe and take care of any injuries.
